The flower-heads are up to 250 mm high Individual flowers are deep pink, springing from a stout stalk. Up to 6 flat leaves appear later and lie flat on the ground. Widespread in our area. Mar-Apr
Brunsvigia litoralis – Large Candelabra
Tall flower-heads up to 700 mm high. Large, dark red flowers sometimes flecked with yellow. Leaves dry at flowering, sub-erect 8-20. This plant is classified as Endangered. Feb-Apr
Chasmanthe aethiopica – Cobra Lily
Orange or red flowers on strong purplish stems with several flowers arranged alternately, all facing one side.. Sword- shaped leaves. Widespread. May – Jun
Cotyledon orbiculata – Pigs Ears
Leaves are large, succulent pale green or grey, sometimes with red edges. Bears a number of red and yellow hanging flowers. Widespread. Nov – Mar
Erica chloroloma – Dune Heather
Tubular flowers that are bright red with green tips. Uncommon here. Classified as Vulnerable. Mar – Sept

Straggling bushes with mauve ray florets and yellow disc florets. Fairly common. Apr – Oct
Haemanthus sanguineus – Paintbrush Lily
The 2 prostate leaves are dry at flowering. Flowers in a tight head, red or pink. The actual stem is stiff and oval in section. Feb.
