OUR COASTAL TREASURE
Cape St Francis Nature Reserves (Cape St Francis, Irma Booysens, Seal Bay, and Seal Point) and the Wild Side
(Walk from the end of Maori Avenue in CSF)
Walking in these areas will give you an awareness of why the unique vegetation needs to be protected. It is home to many fascinating plant and animal species.
Birds to look out for include:
Karoo Prinia
Small, calling out loudly from the top of a bush with its tail flicking back over its body.
Cape Grassbird
A very streakey bird with a brown crown and black markings next to and down from the bill. It calls out in strong, musical warblings that attract your attention.
Cape Longclaw
Often seen in pairs hopping around in the grass. They have a distinctive orange patch on the throat.
Speckled Mousebird
A grey-brown bird with a little black face and an overall untidy appearance. Its long tail and behaviour will remind you of a mouse climbing up a tree or bush.
Black-headed Heron
Stands stock-still looking for frogs and invertebrates to catch. It has a black crown and neck and displays a black and white underwing pattern in flight.
