Why not take a drive into the farmlands along the entrance road to the St Francis area. It pays to drive slowly along one of the farm roads or park at one of the farm dams.

Blue Crane

Unmistakable; one of the most majestic birds in our country.

Denham’s Bustard

Large but hard to spot, listed as Vulnerable. Watch out for the white chest feathers that stand out in the veld as it displays itself to other bustards.

Long-tailed Widowbird

Easily identified in summer as a black bird with red and white shoulder patches and a long tail.

Red-knobbed Coot

A black water bird with a white bill and “forehead”. During breeding season displays two red knobs on the head.

Yellow-billed Duck

A typical duck, always with a bright yellow bill.
