OUR COASTAL TREASURE
Community Garden (Off Harbour Road at the North end of the Two Harbours Walk)
This very accessible and beautiful garden is maintained by Kromme Enviro-Trust volunteers.
Sheltered from the wind, the indigenous plant species and the little stream with its unique plant and animal life provide food and nesting materials for many birds. Spend some time on one of the benches provided and you will meet many of the common Eastern Cape birds.
Cape Robin-Chat
A shy bird, hopping on the ground or flitting up into the bushes. Has a conspicuous white eye stripe, orange-red throat and orange tail feathers.
Cape Bulbul
An easily spotted bird with uniform brown feathers but for the yellow vent (bottom), and a clear white ring around the eye. Often calls in a cheerful series of notes.
Malachite Sunbird
A large and brightly metallic green sunbird with a long tail. Its long, curved beak is adapted to find nectar, insects and spiders in and amongst flowers.
Keep a look out for more weavers, other sunbirds, swifts, swallows and martins.
